If you are looking for a reliable daily ride for errands or the office, you will need to look at “Commuter” e-bikes, which feature comfortable upright seating and smooth tires. They still have adjustable power settings so you can choose exactly how much assistance you want. The practical frames (often step-through) are easier to mount and dismount when navigating city traffic.
With smooth-rolling tires and integrated cargo racks, users of these e-bikes are able to commute comfortably across town. This practical style of e-bike is designed for daily city use and is a great option if you want to replace car trips, avoid parking fees, or run local errands.
At Walk on Wheels we occasionally have a selection of second-hand e-bikes to purchase. All our e-bikes have their batteries and motors checked by our technician prior to going on the shop floor. Availability can be limited at certain times of the year. Please contact us for more information.
The electrical components (the motor and battery) are sealed and generally maintenance-free. However, because e-bikes are slightly heavier and travel at higher speeds than standard bikes, regular “wear and tear” parts like brake pads, tires, and chains may need to be replaced a bit more frequently. We recommend a standard mechanical tune-up once or twice a year depending on your mileage.
Absolutely. Commuter e-bikes are highly water-resistant and designed to handle wet New Zealand weather. The electrical components, like the motor, battery and displayare safely sealed. We just recommend not submerging the bike in deep puddles or using a high-pressure hose to wash it.
